The Columbia Valley is nestled between the Rocky and Purcell Mountain ranges about 150 km West of Banff, Alberta. Several national parks are in the area and we take our breath-taking environment seriously! The Nature Conservancy of Canada has an office situated here as does Wildsight.
The area is home to the Columbia Wetlands, headwaters to the Columbia River. These beautiful wetlands are habitat to many birds and wildlife and are one of the longest wetlands in North America.
The lifestyle of the valley has appeal to everyone. You can find camping, hiking, rock climbing, bike trails, and every other outdoor sport imaginable. From clear, beautiful lakes to snow-covered ski hills, Mother Earth has really out done herself. When you are tired and sore from all that activity, have a soak in one of the several mineral hot springs. In the winter Lake Windermere freezes over to become The Whiteway: the longest maintained ice rink in the world at about 15 km.
Not just a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts; the valley is also home to a thriving art community, a community garden, several music festivals, and many year-round events.
Whether you are coming for the long run or just for a short visit, the Invermere Public Library welcomes you to come by and make yourself feel a part of the community.
