Conversation on Climate Screening

November 8, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Text on this graphic is in the evetn description. There is a photo of the author, John Vaillant, and the conversation moderator, Fatima Syed, climate reporter at The Narwhal. Also an image of the book, Fire Weather by Vaillant.

Join us at the library for a screening of a Zoom conversation with John Vaillant, author of Fire Weather: The Making of a Beast, and Fatima Syed, climate reporter at The Narwhal. All welcome to join! We’ll have a short discussion after the screening to share any thoughts.

Fire has changed communities across BC this year. After the most devastating wildfire season in recorded history, many are wondering how these fires got so big, what we can learn from our current responses, and whether we are prepared for an ever warming future. John Vaillant’s book Fire Weather has become a de-facto guide on the new dangers posed by these fires supercharged by a warming planet. On November 8, he’ll discuss his findings on the Fort McMurray fire of 2016, to help us understand what’s at stake for our cities, towns, and ecosystems. Moderated by Fatima Syed, climate reporter at The Narwhal.

This screening is in partnership with Wildsight Invermere and the Zoom conversation is brought to us by the BC Library Federation.
